I've had about 3 weeks of Chinese classes now (but made this video after the 1st week...and didn't really have internet for 2 weeks), and it is HARD. To let you guys share the experience with me, I thought that I'd teach a little Mandarin. Although I'm learning to read and write, I'm only going to teach how to speak. Enjoy!
A little more info. on characters: They are very challenging to learn because it's complete memorization. A character is not related to its sound at all and only sometimes to its meaning, and each word is a unique character (or combo), so there are thousands. Essentially, if you are Chinese and see a character that is unfamiliar, you won't be able to guess a meaning OR a sound, and likewise, if you hear a word that you've never heard before, you can't even guess how to write it. I feel the pain of Chinese school children.

I LOVE this and will practice every day until I get it. Or maybe not, but I do love it. Can't wait for lesson 2!
