I'm not in Shànghǎi anymore; sorry for the slow catch-up!
The whole city is under construction for and promoting like crazy the 2010 World Expo (like a world's fair). Shànghǎi seems to be the place that you can build anything if you're an architect and the buildings for the expo are definitely interesting. I don't think that I'll be around next year but it would be a great event to experience.
My favorite part of the expo promotion was the mascot, Haibao. He was literally EVERYWHERE in the city.
Literally, you couldn't walk a block, turn your head, take a **** without seeing some kind of a image of Haibao. At first I made fun of him, thinking of him as creepy, and "watching me". I would impersonate him answering, "I'm water," to every question.
But then like some parasitic brain worm, he overtook me and I wanted to see Haibao, needed to see Haibao.
Perhaps he ate my brain and I am Haibao now? Are we dating? Is he evil; is he good? I don't care, I need to be near him. I'm confused, I need to buy something with him on it.
